What is safespotting? Revenants choose the attack style for which you have the lowest defence. When your ranged defence and effective magic defence both exceed your melee defence stats, the revenant will prefer melee — but since you're standing on a safespot tile it can't reach you, so it's stuck and deals no damage.

How Revenant Attack Style Selection Works
The revenant compares your defence rolls for each attack style and picks the one where your roll is lowest.
Because magic uses 70% Magic + 30% Defence for its effective level — while melee uses 100% Defence — a high Defence level disproportionately boosts the melee roll. High-Defence players need significantly more magic def bonus gear to keep the safespot working. The Roll-adj. magic def value shown above is the melee-equivalent bonus your magic defence produces given your current levels.
